Asset Protection & Safety Analyst

Job Purpose

The asset protection & safety analyst will research and analyze information from a variety of databases in order to identify and validate trends relating to sales, shrink, inventory, point of sale (“POS”), stock keeping unit (“SKU”) and gross profits.  This position will utilize available departmental tools such as digital closed circuit televisions (“CCTV”), POS exception based monitoring systems and SKU inventory reports to detect and substantiate the occurrence of occupational fraud.  The asset protection and safety analyst will be accountable for and measured on business and departmental goals in the areas of shrink, accidents, bad checks and cash losses and must be able to investigate and determine root cause relationships and provide solutions that are not always intuitive, obvious or have a precedent.

 

Responsibilities

1. Develop and refine targeted analytics to support investigations of high center store and fresh inventory shrink to determine the root cause. Analyze SKU level inventory data, identify theft trends and validate losses in the areas of internal, external and vendor theft. Perform reverse engineering of shrink related issues to identify the root cause and make recommendations to minimize future exposure by implementing controls. Develop standardized reports that provide asset protection and its business partners with reporting metrics designed to identify loss trends by store, district, region and company. Provide insight and recommendations on the root cause of robberies, burglaries, internal and external theft and all incidents occurring on company properties.

 

2. Make recommendations to refine, maintain, and oversee the companies POS exception based monitoring platform for both the asset protection investigative and store performance sides, while developing standardized reporting metrics for store operations and asset protection. Participate in surveys designed to capture bottom up feedback on various asset protection and safety programs; analyze results and provide recommendations to reduce loss and drive organizational changes.

 

3. Collaborate with business partners to develop and refine reporting and analytic metrics for asset protection audit that will utilize fact based information and provide a predictive model to identify problems and opportunities at the store, district, region, and company levels. Analyze reporting and existing data and identify any inconsistencies or additional areas of opportunity.

 

4. Audit processes and controls that impact shrink, accidents, bad checks and cash losses by utilizing digital CCTV and notify field asset protection staff. Conduct internal theft and accident investigations using various sources of information, all legal means necessary and within the framework of established department investigative policies and procedures. Identify potential safety risks and advise store management of preventative actions to be taken. Conduct external theft investigations and identify organized retail theft for stores suffering enormous losses as reported by store management and supported by inventory shrink results and SKU inventories.

Maintain a thorough understanding of POS exception based reporting tools and utilize this software effectively in detecting, investigating and resolving problems associated with front end and pharmacy shrink.

 

5. Monitor and audit burglar alarm exceptions and provide specific reporting to corporate and field teams. Conduct periodic surveillance of retail locations, distribution centers and office locations to resolve or identify criminal activity. Provide crisis situation support through digital CCTV, communication and reporting while partnering with law enforcement when required.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities Required:

 

·          Bachelor’s degree in criminal justice, business administration or related field and at least two (2) years’ experience in asset protection/loss prevention, forensic accounting, auditing or related field; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

·          Demonstrated proficiency in forensic audit tasks and investigations.

·          Possess a valid driver’s license with a satisfactory driving record.

·          Ability to read, write and speak English proficiently.

·          Ability to understand and follow English instructions.

·          Authorization to work in the United States or the ability to obtain the same.

·          Successful completion of pre-employment drug testing and background check.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities Preferred:

 

·          Certified Forensic Interviewers (CFI)/Certified Fraud Examiners (CFE)/Certified Protection Professional (CPP) designation.

·          Possess financial acumen, flexibility, resiliency and self-direction.

·          Proficiency using data base systems (ex. Hyperion)

·          Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to effectively convey complex and detailed information to a diverse population.
